Improve your cars performance with an Engine & Gearbox remap

Improves Fuel Economy

When we remap a vehicle, especially when fuel saving is the priority, we focus on improving low-end torque and widening the power delivery as far as possible.

The torque improvements lead to lower throttle openings at cruising speeds, when fully laden, or on a gradient. It also allows for the use of higher gears at slower speeds, and fewer gear changes overall.

These factors, combined with an adjustment in driving style to maximize the power characteristics, will see an improvement in in fuel consumption.

More Power (BHP)

Remapping your car or van with one of our custom ECU remaps can improve both torque and BHP, resulting in improved power, response and performance. Each remap we install is tailored specifically for your vehicle and has been dyno tested and developed to maximise gains and minimise the risk of component failure.

Faster Acceleration

By changing the ECU's parameters and limits, remapping can increase horsepower, torque, and 0-60mph speed times.

It does this by adjusting the fuel-to-air mix, along with timings and other performance variables. The result is faster acceleration and better throttle response. This is why remapping is often used in turbocharged engines.

In summary, remapping can be tailored to specific needs. For instance, some drivers prioritise high performance, while others might seek better fuel economy driving.

Performance Remapping

Does what it says on the tin and looks to push the performance of your engine to its full potential whilst maintaining manufacturer efficiency and service intervals. Your car can be transformed into a more powerful machine without sacrificing reliability, making it more enjoyable to drive and extending the time you keep the vehicle over buying a new one.

FAQ

Is Remapping Safe?

We understand you might be wondering about the safety of remapping your vehicle. We want to assure you that when done correctly, remapping is a safe way to enhance your car's performance.

While a remap does increase the demands on your vehicle slightly, the tuning files we use at TGPP-Autocare are carefully developed to stay well within the safe operating limits of your engine, transmission, and drivetrain. We prioritize the longevity and reliability of your vehicle and would never push its components beyond what we consider safe and responsible. Our reputation depends on it!

However, it's crucial to understand that the overall health of your vehicle plays a significant role in how it responds to a remap. Think of it like this: a well-trained athlete can handle increased exertion, but an athlete with underlying health issues might struggle. Similarly, a car in top condition will benefit from a remap, while a car with existing problems might see those problems become more apparent.

That's why at TGPP-Autocare, we emphasize the importance of proper vehicle maintenance. A "full service history" often means regular oil changes, but true maintenance goes beyond that. It means adhering to the manufacturer's recommended service schedule, including timely replacement of parts like spark plugs, coil packs, and filters.

In our experience, the vast majority of issues that arise after a remap are not caused by the remap itself, but rather by pre-existing issues that were masked before the performance increase. These are often related to neglected maintenance. For example, worn spark plugs, faulty coil packs, or boost leaks (in turbocharged vehicles) can all cause misfires after a remap, even if they weren't noticeable before. These issues are almost always due to a lack of proper maintenance.

So, while remapping at TGPP-Autocare is generally safe, we highly recommend ensuring your vehicle is in good condition before any performance modifications. We're happy to discuss your car's maintenance history and advise you on any necessary servicing before proceeding with a remap. Our goal is to enhance your driving experience safely and reliably.

Is A Remap Detectable?

At TGPP-Autocare, we're often asked if a remap is detectable. The short answer is: while we take measures to minimize detection, a determined technician can usually find evidence of a remap if they look hard enough.
Here's a breakdown of how remaps can be detected:

CVN Check: The most common method is checking the Calibration Verification Number (CVN). This is a unique identifier for the ECU software. If the CVN doesn't match the factory setting, it raises a red flag.

Manipulation DTCs: Changes to the ECU software can sometimes trigger Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in various vehicle modules, indicating tampering.

Dealer Tools: Some dealer diagnostic tools can detect software modifications, even if they don't reveal the specifics of the changes.

TGPP-Autocare uses industry-leading remapping software and tools that, in many modern vehicles, can flash the ECU while preserving the original CVN and avoiding manipulation DTCs. This makes detection by most standard dealer tools unlikely.

However, it's important to be realistic. A remap is never completely undetectable. With sufficient time and expertise, a technician could likely find evidence of the modification.

For most situations, the best solution is to return the vehicle to its stock settings before any service where detection might be an issue. At TGPP-Autocare, we offer a "return to stock" service for a reasonable fee, allowing you to easily revert your car's programming.

Depending on the specific tuning method used for your vehicle, we can also discuss strategies to further minimize the chances of detection. We're committed to transparency and want you to be fully informed about the implications of remapping.

Is It A Custom Or Generic Remap?

At TGPP-Autocare, we're often asked whether our remaps are custom or generic. It's important to understand that the term "generic map" is a bit of a misnomer. There's no one-size-fits-all tune that works on every vehicle. Every remap we apply is tailored to your specific vehicle's make, model, drivetrain, ECU, and software version.

For most standard performance increases (Stage 1 and many Stage 2 tunes), we utilize proven and safe calibrations that have been extensively dyno-tested and road-proven on identical vehicles. These aren't generic tunes pulled off the internet; they're carefully developed solutions that we know are reliable. Because they've been thoroughly tested, we can apply them with confidence without needing to make individual tweaks in most cases.

While we don't have our own rolling road, we work with trusted partners who do for highly modified vehicles.

A common misconception is that a tune created "on the fly" is inherently better or safer. This isn't necessarily true. The quality of a tune depends on the tuner's expertise and experience with a particular platform (drivetrain and ECU combination), regardless of how the tune is created.

No tuner writes completely custom software from scratch every time. In most cases, they start with a tried-and-tested solution (like the ones we use) and then make minor adjustments if the vehicle has significant modifications. These adjustments are usually only necessary for heavily modified vehicles with unique combinations of parts, such as upgraded fueling or turbos.
So, instead of focusing on the "custom vs. generic" debate, the most important thing is to choose a reputable tuning company. Look for positive reviews, a professional online presence, and reasonable pricing. Be wary of extremely cheap remaps. A suspiciously low price often indicates the use of questionable tools, untested tunes, and a lack of proper insurance – all of which could put your vehicle at risk.

At TGPP-Autocare, we prioritize quality and reliability. We use proven tuning solutions and are committed to providing you with a safe and effective performance enhancement.

Will A Remap Void My Warranty?

At TGPP-Autocare, we understand that warranty concerns are a major factor when considering a remap. It's a valid question, and the answer is complex.

In short, modifying your vehicle can affect your manufacturer's warranty. Whether or not a manufacturer will deny a specific warranty claim after a remap is ultimately at their discretion. They will likely investigate the cause of any issue and if they determine the remap contributed to the problem, they may refuse to cover it.

It's important to be aware of this potential impact before proceeding with any performance modifications. While we use safe and proven tuning solutions at TGPP-Autocare, we can't guarantee that a manufacturer will always approve a warranty claim on a modified vehicle.

The good news is that we offer a "return to stock" service for a reasonable fee. For £70 including VAT, we can flash your vehicle back to its original factory settings. This can be helpful if you need to take your car in for warranty work and want to minimize the risk of issues.

However, even returning to stock doesn't guarantee that a particularly savvy technician won't be able to tell a car has been previously modified.

We encourage you to weigh the benefits of a remap against the potential warranty implications. We're happy to discuss your specific situation and answer any questions you may have.

Transparency is key, and we want you to make an informed decision.

Do You Have A Dyno?

At TGPP-Autocare, we're often asked about dyno tuning.
While we don't have our own dyno, it's important to understand that a dyno isn't always necessary for a high-quality remap.
For standard performance upgrades like Stage 1 and most Stage 2 remaps, we utilize proven and extensively tested software. This software has been developed using a "donor" vehicle on a dyno during the research and development process. This means the performance gains and safety of the tune have already been validated.
Since the Stage 1 donor vehicle is identical to yours, there's no need to re-dyno the file. For Stage 2, a dyno might be necessary depending on the specific modifications. If your modifications are similar to those used in our development process, a dyno run is usually not required.

We prioritize real-world testing. Whenever possible, we road test vehicles after a remap to ensure everything performs as expected. This allows us to fine-tune the driving experience and confirm the desired results.

In short, a dyno is generally only necessary for heavily modified vehicles with significant changes like upgraded turbos or fuel delivery systems. For most common remaps, our proven software and road testing provide excellent results without the added cost of dyno time. We focus on delivering high-quality, reliable tunes that enhance your driving experience safely and effectively.

What Will Happen To My Fuel Economy

we're often asked about the impact of remapping on fuel economy. It's important to be realistic about what you can expect.
While we can tune a vehicle for improved fuel efficiency, we don't guarantee specific fuel economy gains. Many factors outside our control influence fuel consumption, including:

Driving style: Aggressive driving will negate any potential fuel savings.

Tire pressure: Underinflated tires increase fuel consumption.

Fuel type: Using a different fuel than recommended can affect economy.

Other factors: Road conditions, vehicle load, and even weather can play a role.

If your primary goal is to improve fuel economy and you're not interested in performance gains, then remapping might not be the right solution for you. There are other, more effective ways to improve fuel efficiency, such as eco-driving techniques and regular maintenance.

At TGPP-Autocare, we focus on performance enhancement. While some customers may experience a slight improvement in fuel economy as a side effect, it's not our primary focus, and we don't make any specific fuel economy guarantees.

Why Aren't They Mapped Like This From Factory?

There are several reasons why manufacturers restrict the performance of their vehicles.

One key factor is warranty lifespan. Manufacturers aim to minimize warranty claims. By slightly under-tuning engines, they can reduce the stress on components and potentially extend the vehicle's lifespan, leading to fewer warranty repairs.

This also allows them to offer longer and more comprehensive warranties, which can be a selling point.
Another reason is cost savings.

Developing multiple different engines is expensive.

Increasingly, manufacturers are using a single engine platform and offering it in different power levels.

This saves on research and development costs.

A great example is the Ford Transit Custom, available in 100, 125, and 150 BHP versions, all using the same engine, transmission, and drivetrain. These engines are often capable of significantly more power (like 180 BHP), but the manufacturer charges a premium for the higher-output versions.

Finally, global market considerations play a significant role. Manufacturers sell their vehicles worldwide, facing varying tax brackets, insurance groups, and environmental conditions.

They need a universal engine tune that complies with all these regulations while maximizing sales in diverse markets. This often means a compromise on peak performance to ensure broader market appeal and compliance.

A single "global" tune simplifies manufacturing and logistics.

What Happens to My Car's Sport Mode After an SCC Performance Remap from TGPP-Autocare?

That's a great question! At TGPP-Autocare, we understand how important driving modes are to your experience. When we apply an SCC Performance Remap to your vehicle, we don't eliminate or alter your existing driving modes. Instead, we enhance them.

Here's how it works:

  • Improved Performance Across All Modes: A common misconception is that remapping only affects one mode. With an SCC Performance Remap from TGPP-Autocare, you'll experience increased power and improved throttle response in all driving modes. Whether you're in Eco, Comfort, Sport, or any other mode, you'll notice a significant difference.

  • Enhanced Throttle Calibration: Each driving mode typically has its own throttle mapping. Our expert technicians at TGPP-Autocare recalibrate these maps as part of the remapping process. This means that each mode will not only have more power available but will also have a more refined and responsive feel. Sport mode will feel even sportier, Comfort mode will be more relaxed yet still more powerful, and so on.

  • Steering and Suspension: Just as before the remap, features like added steering weight or suspension adjustments in different modes will still function as they did from the factory. The remap focuses on the engine's performance, not these other vehicle systems.

  • The Best of Both Worlds: With an SCC Performance Remap from TGPP-Autocare, you get the best of both worlds. You retain the convenience and versatility of your car's driving modes, but now each mode delivers a significantly enhanced driving experience.

In short, your Sport mode (and all other modes) will still behave as designed, but with a noticeable boost in power and improved throttle response thanks to the custom calibration from TGPP-Autocare using SCC Tuning Maps.

Do I Need To Service My Car More Frequently?

For most standard performance remaps using SCC Tuning Maps, there's no need to alter your manufacturer's recommended service schedule. Our mild performance tunes are designed to work within your engine's safe operating parameters, so your regular maintenance intervals remain the same.

Of course, more frequent servicing is always a good practice for maximizing your engine's lifespan, even without a remap. Regular maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and other preventative measures, can help keep your engine running smoothly for years to come. So, while it's not required after a remap, it's certainly recommended for optimal engine health.
